About Arnold Transit Company

Arnold Transit Company was founded in 1878 by George T. Arnold as the Arnold & Coats Ferry Line. Coal-fire steamboats transported passengers and goods for almost 70 years to various Michigan ports and islands. The company changed its name in 1890 and was acquired by Prentiss M. Brown in 1935.

After World War II, Arnold Transit Company, merged with Island Transport Company and added St Ignace service.

Rebranding

In 2024, Hoffmann Marine, a division of the Hoffmann Family of Companies, acquired Mackinac Island Ferry Company and rebranded it as the Arnold Transit Company.

Services

Arnold Transit Company provides ferry service to the cities of St. Ignace, Mackinaw City and historic Mackinac Island.

Dockage

Arnold Transit Company’s dockage includes the Historic Dock #1 on Mackinac Island, the Mackinaw City Dock #1 as well as the Original Arnold Transit Dock #1 in St Ignace.  It also operates the Railroad dock and Dock #3 in St Ignace.
